Abstract

153,098. Krauss, A. Aug. 1, 1919. Fly-wheels consist of a pair of disks C and a rim B, the disks carrying arbors D supported in bearings. On the inner side of each disk is a spiral flange I increasing in depth outwards and so arranged that the lowest point of each whorl is eccentric to the vertical axis of the wheel. On these flanges run stepped cones M, carrying weights K which tend to fall towards the said lowest points and thus rotate or assist in rotating the wheel. When such weight reaches the outer end of the spirals, it falls past spring-pressed gates N to the centre. Any number of such fly-wheels may be mounted side by side, and any number of weights may be arranged in each. Such wheels are particularly useful with motors having periodic power strokes, such as fourstroke internal-combustion engines.
