Strip and thin plate springs.-The radius-rods of motor road vehicles &c. are secured to the axles or frame through the intermediary of volute springs which permit slight lateral, longitudinal, and rotational movement, the convolutions of the springs lying approximately in the same plane as their rods. As shown in Fig. 1, the inner coil of a volute spring 8 is secured to the end of a bolt 6 projecting beneath the axle 5, and the spring casing 13 has a split-socket extension in which the end of the radius rod is secured. In a modification, the bolt is screwed into a bracket adapted for attachment to the frame.
