Abstract

454,398. Vehicle spring suspensions. PALMER, G. M., 53, Hallowell Road, Northwood, Middlesex. July 30, 1935, No. 21621. [Class 108 (ii)] In vehicles in which the wheels are independently sprung the axes of the wheels are maintained in substantially parallel relationship by a transverse member which is strong in resistance to bending but is relatively weak in torsion so as to act as a torsion stabilizer. The wheel casings 28 are carried by arms 13 which are pivoted at 14 to the chassis 10 and are connected to torsion bar springs 15, the other ends of which are anchored at 16 to a bracket 17 and also provided with a spigot 19 adapted to bear in an eye 20 through which the vehicle drive 22 passes and which is mounted on a transverse member 21 of channel section. The ends of the member 21 are connected to the casings 28 and to the arms 13. The brake anchor plate 37 is rotatably mounted relatively to the casing 28 but is kept from actual rotation by an arm 40, Fig. 2, the end of which forms part of a shock-absorber 41. Fig. 5 shows a transverse member 21 mounted to the rear of the axle and rods 44 are provided to prevent lateral movement of the wheels.
