Abstract

1529686 Measuring pad wear in disc brakes FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 5 Dec 1975 [3 May 1975] 18608/75 Heading G1M [Also in Division B3] A graduated rod or tube 1, Figs. 1, 2, is arranged to abut a motor vehicle brake disc 11 whilst an outer sleeve 2 is arranged to abut the other side of the pad 12. At the same time a deformable sleeve 4, provided with a rod graduation viewing hole 6 and an arm 5, is clamped to the rod 2 by a screwed sleeve 7 so that the arm engages a machined boss 15 on a floating caliper housing 14, the other end of the housing engaging the remote side of the other pad 13. If the pad 12 is of a correct thickness then no graduation mark is visible on the rod 1 beyond the sleeve 2, and the thickness of the pad 13 may be seen by viewing the graduations through the hole 6 and a slot 3 in the sleeve 4. In Fig. 4 the rod 21 mounts a sleeve 24 having a flange 26 engageable with one pad and a further sleeve 31 having an arm 28 engaging the boss 15, the location of the grooves 22, 23 being viewed through slots 25, 31 and being visible beyond the sleeves when the pads are worn. A web 30 may be used as a tyre tread gauge and the point 32 and handle 33 may form part of a screwdriver having a socket 34.
