Abstract

1528484 Forming composite sintered metal strip BRITISH STEEL CORP 7 Oct 1976 [7 Oct 1975] 41080/75 Heading C7D A sintered metal strip is continuously produced by depositing on one or each surface of a moving green strip of roll compacted dry metal powder a layer of a slurry of a binder and a powder metal or ore different from that of the strip and then sintering to form a composite strip. The green strip may be formed by rolling water atomized steel, stainless steel, Fe, Ni or Cu powders at rolls 2, and a slurry of stainless steel, Cu, Ni or Cr powders in methyl cellulose may be applied via roller 5 from container 6. The coated strip is sintered in furnace 8 and transported through the furnace on a gaseous cushion. The strip may be hot and cold-rolled after sintering and the coating may be applied simultaneously on both surfaces of the strip or the strip may be recycled to coat the other surface.
