Abstract
1525786 Refining copper KLOCKNER HUMBOLDT DEUTZ AG 14 May 1976 [22 May 1975] 20091/76 Addition to 1348513 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] Copper is continuously refined by flowing it through a multi-zone reaction chamber in counterflow to heating gases produced in the final zone by incomplete combustion. In one zone a slag is formed and removed, while in at least one zone a stream of oxygen-containing gas is introduced in such a way that it reacts with the metal before contacting the heating gas. As illustrated metal from the charging chamber 5 is blown in the intermediate chamber 6 with a controllable oxygen stream from lance 20 and then passes below slagretaining weir 8 to the reduction chamber 7 where it may be blown with a fuel-oxygen mixture.
