Abstract

152,566. Bower, C. O. March 2, 1920. TuyÞres.-A furnace tuyere consists of a body A of malleable or cast iron or non-ferrous allov with a renewable nose B of forged copper or alloy. Cooling water from one or more nozzles H is given a whirling motion in an annular chamber G formed between a baffle-ring E and the nose; it leaves this chamber through a nozzle K and passes through the space C in the body with a spiral motion to the exit M. The baffle-ring is formed in segments, retained in grooves F in the nose, which is secured to the body by bolts 0 passing through the ring segments. An enlargement is made at one point of the grooves to allow the segments to be inserted; alternatively, the ring E may be solid and inserted before the nose is finally brought to size in dies. In a modified form, the nose and body are drawn in one piece and attached to a base; whilst a helical baffle-plate is secured in the hollow body to guide the water.
