Abstract

1524154 Fluidized bed combustion chambers ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 23 March 1977 [26 March 1976] 12176/76 Heading F1L [Also in Divisions B1 and F4] A fluidized bed combustion apparatus 10 incorporates gas swirling means 22 located in a vessel 12 between the fluidized bed 20 and an outlet for the heated gas. The swirling means 22 serve to increase the residence time within the vessel of fuel particles entrained in the heated gas, thereby ensuring that they are completely burnt before entering downstream cyclone separators 17. The swirling means 22 comprises a plurality of angled vanes 28 extending between a central boss 28 and the wall of the vessel, the angle between the vanes and the vertical being less than 45 degrees. A restrictor plate 24 having a central vertical outlet (32) is located above and spaced from the means 22. The fuel burnt in bed 20 may be particulate coal.
