Abstract
1461411 Fluidized bed combustion apparatus ENERGY EQUIPMENT CO Ltd 3 May 1974 [16 May 1973] 23434/73 Heading F4B Fluidized combustion apparatus for use in shell type boiler comprises a cylindrical combustion chamber having a distributer plate for the fluidizing air shaped so that the depth of the fluidized bed is non-uniform. A boiler, Fig. 1, may have a number of fluidized beds A1-A5 and smoke tubes H, J. Each fluidized bed has an inclined distributer plate B of upwardly convex cross-section with air supply nozzles C. Solid fuel is supplied to the bed by channels T from a screwfeeder D. The air plenum chamber is tapered to equalize the air supply pressure, and partitions F divide the bed into separately stoked compartments. A starting burner G is directed on to the first compartment. Ash and unburnt fines flow over the partitions F to secondary combustion bed in the transition chamber E of the boiler, baffles L returning heavier particles to the primary bed. An overflow tube K in the secondary bed withdraws ash. The distributer plate may be a perforated plate of inverted V- shape with a refractory mat serving to protect the plate. The fuel may be supplied through slots V in the plate, Fig. 4. Overflow tubes may be arranged in the primary bed, a space at the bottom of the cylindrical combustion chamber serving for the removal of ash (Fig. 5). Fuel may be supplied to the bed by a number of inclined tubes discharging above the distributer plate, and the fuel may be liquid or gaseous.
