Abstract

1522530 Foldable wheel chairs YAESU REHABILI CO Ltd, ,13 Aug 1976 [21 Aug 1975] 33893/76 Heading B7B A wheel chair is so constructed that, when a flexible seat 30 is raised, the longitudinal and transverse dimensions of the chair are simultaneously reduced. At each side of the chair, a frame 10 comprises an upper member 11 secured to a vertical post 12, to which are pivoted front and rear lower members 14, 15, and two pairs of interpivoted diagonal braces 18<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>11</SP> extend between the side frames and are journalled by universal joints 20 to the upper members 11 and respectively to the front and rear lower members. Thus, raising of the seat 30 causes the members 14, 15 to pivot downwardly and the braces 18<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>11</SP> simultaneously move together to reduce the transverse chair dimension. Backrest supporting posts 51 slide in apertures in the members 11 and are held in a desired position by pins 53.
