Abstract

1,178,762. Kit for recreational apparatus. L. HOBBS. 3 April, 1968 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2534/67. Heading A6M. [Also in Divisions B7 and E2] A kit for constructing slides, climbing frames, swings, roundabouts, see-saws, and coasters comprises two channel-sectioned members 7 hinged together, a set of 12 ladders 6 and connectors 9 for connecting the ladders of the set to each other and for connecting the channel members to the ladders. Front and back axle assemblies (Figs. 13, 14, 15 not shown) may be secured to the channel-sectioned members when folded from the extended position shown in Fig. 8 in which they are utilised to form a see-saw to a back to back position to form a coaster. The wheels 18 of the front axle assembly 19B are mounted on swivel mountings 22 and may be steered by a steering column 27 associated with a steering linkage 25 which is associated with the front wheels. A seat 30 may also be secured between the channel members when folded in a back to back position. The channel-sectioned members may be provided with hooks e (Fig. 2 not shown) which cooperate with each other, when the channel-sectioned members are extended, to form a pair of rings through which a bar f may be passed to serve as a support to the channel-sectioned members when used in conjunction with the ladders of the set to form a see saw; the ladders are connected to one another to form a supporting frame which supports the bar horizontally so that the channel-sectioned members are supported by the frame for a pivoting movement. The toy may comprise a further bar and four supporting arms which are used in conjunction with two ladder frames and the extended channel section members to form a swing. The channel sectioned members when in the extended and inverted position may be supported by a base 33 (Fig. 17, not shown) to form a roundabout. The connectors include two-piece connectors consisting of two hollow arms 9 which are hingedly joined together and can be slid over the end of a side piece of any one of the ladders. The two arms can be folded to lie side by side, which is utilised for connecting the climbing frame, or held side by side which is used for connecting adjacent ladders. Nuts 4 provided on the channel-sectioned members can receive bolts passed through apertures in other components of the toy whereby the other components can be secured to the channel-sectioned members.
