Abstract
1522311 Fusible cut-outs ELECTRICITY COUNCIL 15 Aug 1975 [15 May 1974] 21606/74 Heading H2G A fuse for an alternating current electrical circuit comprises a pair of elements ACB, ADB connected in parallel between two terminals 11, 13 and formed in a loop round a ferromagnetic core 15, a conductor 10 from one common connection of the elements forming another loop around the core and the resistances R 1 , R 2 of the elements and the configuration of the loops giving a low-overload-current-operating- time which is shorter than that of a conventional fuse with the same high-overload-currentoperating-time. This is achieved by employing the transformer effect at low overload currents to induce high local currents in the elements while at heavy overload currents a relatively long operating time is maintained since the core becomes saturated and the transformer effect is lost.
