Abstract

152,155. Cole, W. H. July 24, 1919. Switches, latching.-A switch lock to be applied to the ignition circuit of a motor car or cycle to guard against theft has a permutation lock composed of a number of disks with a notch in the interior periphery to admit a spring-operated lever when the notches coincide, the circuit being completed by the lever or by contacts carried by the disks. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the letter disks 8, 9, 10, 11 rotate upon a tubular spindle 1. The disks 8, 9, 10 carry a fixed plate contact on one face and a spring-plunger contact on the other face. The disk 11 has a spring- plunger contact on each face. When the correct letter combination is obtained the contacts are in line and connect terminals 3 with terminals 6 through the contact plates 7 on the end plate 5, Fig. 3. In this position, the pivoted lever 16 is pressed by a spring 20 through a slot in the tube 1 into notches in the contact disks to hold the links in position. The lock is released by raising the end 21 of the lever. In a modification, the disks 8 - - 11 do not carry contacts, but the lever 16 acts as a switch lever and completes a circuit with the contact 23, Fig. 6, when the spring 20 causes it to enter the notches in the disks. The lock in this case is released by rotation of the end disk 11 which carries a cam to raise the lever.
