Abstract

621,372. Preventing unauthorised use. MUNDAY, E. J., and HORNE, W. A. J. Feb. 24,1947, No: 5281. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A permutation switch for controlling the ignition system of a motor vehicle and/or a magnetic lock for the bonnet, comprises a number of individuallyrotatable brass discs 20 - 23, each removably carrying a plunger contact 25 in one of a number of radial holes 24. The discs 20, 21 and 22, 23, are electrically connected together and the pairs are insulated from each other by a disc 26. When the ignition circuit is completed, the current flows from terminal 14 to 15, via contact 12, discs 20, 21, contact 16, discs, 22, 23, and contact 13. Each disc has a groove 321 adapted to be engaged by a spring-urged key 31 on a shaft 19 which is slidable to select a disc and then rotatable to move the disc to the required position, e.g. to engage terminals 10 to complete the ignition circuit or terminals 11 to energise a magnetic lock to release the bonnet. The shaft 19 has grooves 33 engaged by a spring-pressed ball (not shown) to locate the key 31 opposite discs 21, 22. The discs are located in their rotated positions by engagement of the contacts 25 with recesses 9 on th casing 1.
