Abstract

1518132 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines NVT MOTORCYCLES Ltd 16 July 1976 [19 April 1975] 16288/75 Heading F1F [Also in Division B7] A propulsion unit for a light aircraft or groundeffect vehicle includes an air screw propeller 13 driven by a rotary piston I.C. engine (of the Wankel type), the engine being disposed with its main shaft 6 normal to the shaft 12 of the propeller, and with the major portion of the stator surrounding the hot lobe 15 of the stator cavity facing towards the propeller. Up to four such engines may be provided equi-angularly spaced around the shaft 12, or alternatively in T or V formation. Each engine may have two rotors 7 and stators separated by a plate 31, Fig. 1 (not shown), and the stators have cooling fins 14 which are of greater depth or more closely spaced in the region of the hot lobe.
