Abstract

To immobilise a biologically active material, namely one or more of a) proteins, b) coenzymes having at least one primary or secondary amino group per molecule, c) enzymes, together with a coenzyme for the enzyme and d) antibiotics which are not proteins and contain at least one primary or secondary amino group per molecule, in solid articles, a process is used in which the biological material is intially incorporated into a liquid polyurethane prepolymer having terminal isocyanate groups. The mixture obtained is then reacted with an amount of a curing agent which is sufficient to immobilise the biologically active material under foam-forming or non-foam-forming conditions. The process is used for the preparation of self-supporting films, of films applied to supports, of discs or pellets of foamed polyurethane, or of a tube having an internal surface of polyurethane.
