Abstract

1516994 Controlling gas burners CHAFFOTEAUX & MAURY SA 1 Sept 1975 [13 Sept 1974] 35974/75 Heading F4T A heat generator comprises a combustion chamber 6 containing in its lower part a gas burner 1 and in its upper part a heat exchanger 7 with conduits for circulating water, and safety means responsive to the desaturation of a flame (for example of pilot burner 4) in the combustion chamber caused by a rise in the CO 2 content of air supporting the flame so as to cut-off gas to the burner 1, such air being drawn through a conduit 11, in part from a point in the combustion chamber below the heat exchanger. The end 12 of the conduit 11 opens downwardly adjacent an aperture 10 in the combustion chamber wall, the aperture being located at a level to which combustion gases back in the event of a blockage of the flow path of a magnitude likely to cause dangerous CO levels. The conduit 11 can alternatively be inside the combustion chamber 1. A thermosensitive device 8 is normally downstream of the blue cone 9 of the pilot flame, and causes the gas to be cut-off when excessive CO 2 causes elongation of the cone to embrace the device 8.
