Abstract
1517799 Generating combustion products under pressure NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 9 Oct 1975 41398/75 Headings FIB, F1G and F1L [ Also in Division F4] The rate of burning of a stoichiometric mixture of hydrogen and oxygen or air, in a combustion chamber 20, Fig. 2, for a turbine 22, an I.C. engine, Fig. 4, or a boiler, is effected by adding gaseous carbon dioxide to the mixture before feeding to the combustion chamber, the carbon dioxide having a heat conductivity lower than that of nitrogen gas. As shown in Fig. 2, carbon dioxide is fed to the mixture under a control 46, responsive to a temperature sensor 42 at the turbine inlet. The hydrogen and oxygen may be burned without diluent initially until the temperature reaches a predetermined level. Again Fig. 4, the addition of carbon dioxide is effected under a control 90 responsive to a combustion sensor 72 responsive to the flame propagation speed in the combustion chamber 66, an ignition spark pulse detector 74, and an engine speed sensor 88. The detector 74 additionally controls feed of the hydrogen and oxygen. The exhaust gas at 68 is fed to a heat exchanger 76 where water is extracted at 80 and the exhaust is recirculated and added to the mixture, so that addition of diluent carbon dioxide may cease.
