Abstract
1514522 Heat and acid resistant silicate materials BASF AG 24 July 1975 [25 July 1974] 30958/75 Heading C1A A heat and acid resistant zeolite is made by (i) subjecting an alkali metal faujasite having an SiO 2 :Al 2 O 3 molar ratio of 4-7 to ion exchange to replace all but 5-7% by weight of alkali metal ions (calculated as Na 2 O 3 ) by NH 4 <SP>+</SP> ions, (ii) calcining the ion exchange material at a temperature of 700-800‹C. without prior drying, (iii) subjecting the calcined material to ion exchange with NH 4 <SP>+</SP> ions to further reduce the alkali metal ion content to less than 2À5%, (iv) calcining the ion exchange product without prior drying at a temperature of 800-900‹C and thereafter (v) optionally treating the calcined product with an aqueous solution of a strong mineral acid to remove at least part of Al from lattice and (vi) (a) drying or (b) calcining to provide Si in at least some of defect positions. The first and/or second ion exchange treatments may be carried out using aqueous solutions of NH 4 Cl, (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , NH 4 NO 3 , (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 , CH 3 COONH 4 or HCOONH 4 . To manufacture zeolites with a molar ratio SiO 2 :Al 2 :O 3 of up to 8 the final acid treatment may be omitted and a buffer solution of pH 3À5-6À5 is used in the second exchange stage. When higher SiO 2 :Al 2 O 3 ratios are required the calcined zeolite in the second ion exchange is treated with 1-6 N mineral acid, e.g. HNO 3 , HCl or H 2 SO 4 for a period of 1-10 hours. Molar ratios greater than 60 may be obtained. After the acid treatment the product may be filtered, dried and calcined at 300-1100‹C
