Abstract

1513956 Friction false twisting J F SMITH 22 May 1975 [22 May 1974] 22350/75 Heading DID Synthetic yarn is friction false twisted by displacing it from a rectilinear path to engage on diametrically opposed sides the rectilinear surface of rotating cylindrical members. Apparatus for so false twisting comprises shafts 18, 20 carrying cylindrical friction members 38, 42 in cooperating groups on each shaft so spaced out as to allow the yarn to be guided to seats on opposite sides of a plane through the shaft axes. The members 38 are, thicker than the members 42 and have friction surface edges of e.g. urethane material. The intermediate groups of friction members 38 are in pairs with intermediate discs 42. Alternatively members 38 can have a peripheral groove which disc 42 enters. Shaft 20 is driven by belt 32 engaging wharve 30 while belts 36 transmit drive from shaft 20 to shaft 18.
