1513436 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines HYDROPERFECT-INTERNATIONAL HPI 7 Aug 1975 33062/75 Heading F1F In a reversible hydraulic gear-pump, or motor, fluid pressures on the inner sides of cheek plates, or "cheeks," 8, 9 abutting the sides of the gears 6, 7 are substantially balanced by pressures acting on the outer sides of the cheeks in areas 27, 27a, 28, 28a, 30 defined partly by gaskets 23, 23a, 24, 24a, the areas 27, 27a, being contiguous with working- fluid inlet and outlet chambers 10, 11, pressure being transmitted to the areas 28, 28a from the gear-tooth spaces through channels 29, 29a, and the area 30 being subjected to pressure in the region of the meshing gear-teeth through channels 21. To minimize leakage to the area 30 from the other areas across the inner ends of radial portions 231, 24 1 of the gaskets pressure-loaded pins (31), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), may be lodged between these ends so as to abut the casing end-covers 14, 15. The cheeks support shafts 12, 13 for the gears and may have lubricating grooves 20 therein. Channels 21 connect grooves 22 to chambers 19, which may be connected to a working-fluid reservoir through a channel 40.
