1512860 Furniture joints STAINES METAL PRODUCTS (GROUP) Ltd 13 Dec 1976 [12 Dec 1975] 51010/75 Heading A4H A bench includes a seat formed by wooden planks 3, a backrest formed by a wooden plank 4, and a pair of end frames (1 and 2), Fig.3 (not shown), each end frame comprising an L-shaped metal casting 5 having cylindrical formations 12 and 13 in which are fitted tubular steel legs 6 and 7 respectively, the legs fitting into cylindrical formations 14 and 15 of a metal casting 8. The casting 5 has a T-shaped cross-section, Fig.2 (not shown) and lateral flanges 9, 10, 11 to which the planks 3 and 4 are attached. In other embodiments the bench may have one leg and be fitted to a wall, Figs.7 and 8 (not shown), or may have individual metal feet on each leg, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), or may have a U-shaped tubular piece which forms the two legs. The underframe may be used for a table, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), or other furniture article. The legs are connected to the castings 5 and 8 either by pins through cylindrical projections of the casting inside the legs, Fig. 4 (not shown), or by individual screws connecting the castings with inserts in the legs, Fig.5 (not shown), or by a tie bar through the castings and the legs Fig.6 (not shown). The castings may be of aluminium or iron with the legs of mild or stainless steel.
