Abstract
150,864. Richards & Co., W., Taylor, L. B., and Gardner, C. July 4, 1919. Firing-appliances; breech actions, dropdown barrel. - Relates to the lockmechanism of guns having external hammers and consists in (1) a rebounding mechanism (2) means for fixing the hammer to the tumbler pivot, (3) the construction of and manner of securing the bridle, and (4) the construction and arrangement of the main and sear springs. The hammer is caused to rebound by a bell-crank lever i, Figs. 4 and 5, the longer arm of which transmits the pressure from the main spring k to a sliding rod m the head m<2> of which acts on the tumbler c, whilst the shorter arm engages an incline on the tumbler when the hammer is in its firing position, shown in Fig. 5, and causes the hammer to rebound. The hammer b is fixed to the pivot c<2> of the tumbler by a cross-pin d, Fig. 7. The bridle e, Fig. 10, is made plain on both sides and is secured by a single screw and four loose distance-pieces f, Fig. 11. The main spring k and the sear spring l are both coiled compression springs arranged on rods m and n respectively, which slide in holes in lugs p, r projecting from the lock-plate a.
