Abstract

1508173 Railway vehicle undercarriages PATENTES TALGO SA 19 March 1975 [25 March 1974] 11348/75 Heading B7L A railway vehicle has a suspension system comprising independent pneumatic springs 3 which are located on each side of the central vertical longitudinal plane of the vehicle, are supported on a running gear frame 1 (by tubular arms 4) to carry the vehicle body 5, bear directly on respective bases located above the centre of gravity of the body 5, and are yieldable both vertically and horizontally in use in response to centrifugal force when rounding a curve in a track. For slow, straight vehicle operation, the springs 3 are connected to respective level adjustment valves (11), Fig. 3 (not shown), which provide input or exhaust of air to the springs to thus maintain the body 5 level within certain limits. When speed exceeds a predetermined value in combination with entry to a curve of less than a predetermined radius, solenoid-operated cut-off valves (9) prevent further input or exhaust of air so that the springs 3 induce an inclination of the body 5 additional to that caused by banking of the curved track, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modified form, the suspension may be interposed between two adjacent vehicles so that the springs 3 support the bodies of both vehicles.
