Abstract

1507849 Latches J E JOHNSON 30 July 1976 [31 July 1975] 31977/75 Heading E2A A latching mechanism consists of an apertured keeper and a latch 4, pivotable at 9 and having a nose 8 which co - operates with the keeper aperture and which has a hole 14 through which the hasp of a padlock may pass. As shown in Fig. 1, the latching mechanism may be used for sliding doors which terminate in extruded sections 1, 2 respectively. The keeper 5 is shown to be bent around section 2 to terminate in a tab 22. The latch is mounted via bracket 6 on section 1 and protrudes through the gap between the doors so that it may be operated from inside or outside the doors. The latch passes through the hole in the keeper assisted by the rounded leading edge and engages the bottom of the aperture in notch 11, acting under gravity.
