Abstract

1507506 Winding webs SOC F CALEMARD ET CIE 18 June 1975 [18 June 1974 13 May 1975] 25998/75 Heading B8R In order to maintain constant tension during winding on a shaft, the shaft is driven by oneway clutches operatively connected to resiliently yieldable linkage driven by reciprocable connecting rods. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, a winding shaft 1 is driven by a shaft 6 via speed reduction gearing 4, 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. One or more one-way clutched wheels 7 are mounted on the shaft 6 and are oscillated by arms 8 fixed thereto at their one ends and mounted slidably against the action of compression springs 12 on connecting rods 9 by swivels 8<SP>1</SP>. The connecting rods 9 are attached to a constantly rotating crankshaft 10. The lengths of the arms 8 are adjusted so that, at the beginning of winding, the speed of a point on the periphery of the roll forming on shaft 1 is substantially equal to the issuing speed of the web T. As winding proceeds, the roll diameter increases and thus the speed of rotation of the shaft 1 must be decreased if the speed of a point on the roll periphery is to be matched with the issuing speed. Contraction of the springs 12 during the down stroke of the connecting rods due to increase in web tension as winding proceeds, effects this speed reduction automatically. In a second embodiment, Fig. 9, one-way clutched wheels 20 are attached directly to a winding shaft 17 and oscillated by arms 21 pivotably mounted on housings 23 which can be slid relative to their associated connecting rods 24 against the action of springs 28. The spring compression is, however, constant whatever the roll diameter, speed reduction in this embodiment being automatically effected, by movement of the point of application of the arms 21 on the wheels 20 as the roll diameter increases and causes the winding shaft 17 to ascend.
