Abstract
150,699. Pneumercator Co., (Assignees of Parks, H. S.). Aug. 28, 1919, [Convention date]. Indicators actuated by pressureof head of liquid.-The water level in a steam boiler or the like is indicated at a distance as described in Specification 114,857 by means of a differential pressure indicator connected to the boiler by pipe lines 17, 18 fitted with three-way cocks 15, 16 having drains 19, 20 and so arranged at. the boiler end that the pressure in the pipe 17 equals the steam pressure plus the actual head of water in the boiler, and in the pipe 18, which is maintained full of water up to a certain level, equals the steam pressure plus this constant head. The gauge consists of a glass tube 4 closed at the top- and surrounding a second glass tube 5 open at both ends; it is contained in a case 1, with a transparent front 3. The present invention is distinguished by the interposition between the gauge- and pipe lines of a reservoir 10 fitted with a drain cock 30. The inner tube is connected to the cock 15 and is isolated from the chamber by a tube 21, a tube 28 of a certain height, which may be telescopic, being connected to the cock 16 so that the volumes of air entrapped in the chamber 10 may be brought to a certain value before putting the gauge tubes into communication with the boiler. Two scales are arranged at the sides of the gauge, one 6 being fixed while the other 8 is adjustable and fitted with a zero reading preferably arranged to coincide with the level in one of the tubes when the level in the boiler is normal. The gauge may be constructed in a #-form if desired, and a float may be arranged in the inner tube.
