Abstract
1506167 Seals IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 37946/74 Heading F2B In a roller nip arrangement for sealingly passing a web between two regions of different fluid pressure or composition, the space between the part of the periphery of roller 1 remote from the nip and a stationary housing 7 is sealed, by retaining magnetic fluid in the gaps 6 by means of magnetic flux therein. A permanent magnet 6, with pole pieces 5, is mounted on a magnetically impermeable slab 8. The magnetic circuit is completed by a ferromagnetic layer on the roller 6. This layer may be chromium plated.
