Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic fluid sealing effect without the special injection of a magnetic fluid, by providing a porous member between the facing sides of yokes and impregnating the member with the magnetic fluid. CONSTITUTION:The porous ring 6 is provided between the facing sides of the annular yokes 2. The magnetic fluid is impregnated in the porous ring 6. A closed magnetic circit consists of permanent magnets 1, the annular yokes 2 and a shaft 4. Since the density of leakage flux increases toward small gaps between the shaft 4 and the annular yokes 2, the magnetic fluid retained in the porous ring 6 oozes into the small gaps and fills it. The shaft is thus completely sealed up.
