Abstract
1506110 Vehicles having power-producing shock absorbers R E STARBARD 3 June 1976 22964/76 Heading H2A A rack bar 26 which may be connected to a vehicle wheel is mounted for vertical reciprocation in a housing 12 of a shock absorber unit 10, and gears 31, 32 mesh with the rack bar teeth 27 so that, through an arrangement of further gears and clutches, alternators 49, 51 are rotated to produce electricity as the rack bar reciprocates and thereby provide sufficient drag on the system for a shock-absorbing effect. A gear 41 secured to a shaft 17 is rotated in the same direction during both upward and downward movement of the rack bar because gears 31, 32 are alternately drivingly connected to respective gears 33, 37 by one-way clutches 34, 35 and 38, 39. The shaft 17 also carries a gear 44 of a gear train 44, 45, 46, 47, the gear 47 being secured to a double V-pulley 48 for belts 50, 52 which drive the alternators.
