Abstract

1505125 Making cable envelopes LIGNES TELEGRAPHIQUES ET TELEPHONIQUES 22 April 1975 [2 May 1974] 16629/75 Headings B3A and B3E [Also in Division H1] A method of making an electric cable envelope comprises corrugating a metal strip along its width and along its length with the depth of the lengthwise corrugations varying as their distance from the axis of symmetry of the strip and forming the strip into a cylindrical envelope over the cable core. The corrugations are formed by passing the strip between shaped rolls and the transverse and longitudinal may be formed successively or simultaneously. By varying the depth of adjacent longitudinal corrugations, buckling of the strip edges is prevented thereby improving the quality of the joint when the edges are welded together to form the cylindrical envelope.
