Abstract

1502911 Sewing machines feed by clamps SINGER CO 9 May 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 19529/75 Heading DIG To facilitate movement by cam 40 of a work clamp comprising an arched frame 30 and work clamping members 46, 56 a ball bearing 85, between the lower clamp member 56 and the bed 16, 17 of the sewing machine 10. is raised in synchronism with the raising of the needle 24. A ball bearing 97 is also provided between the frame 30 and a race plate 95 below the machine arm 11. The balls 90, 100 are received in plastics (PTFE) sockets and bearing units 85 are moved upwards and downwards by linkages (66-83 Fig. 2 not shown) driven by a crank on the end of a shaft 60 driven at the speed of arm shaft 20. The linkages include levers (70) pivoted on eccentric pivots (74) which are rotatable to adjust the height to which the balls 90 rise.
