Abstract

1,267,325. Feeding by clamps. NECCHI S.p.A. 28 July, 1970 [30 July, 1969], No. 36477/ 70. Heading DIG. A sewing machine for sewing darts comprises work clamping means 53, a carriage 47 for the clamping means and a fluid operated cylinder arrangement 43 to displace the carriage along guide rods 24, 25, the clamping means 53 being pivotally mounted by a spindle 50 on the carriage 47 and provided with a groove (not shown) having the configuration of the seam to be sewn, said groove engaging a fixed boss 58 which receives the needle of the machine so that as the carriage is displaced the clamp is rotated relative thereto by the interaction of the groove and the boss. The seam formed is shown in Fig. 4, sewing commencing at 1 and moving by way of 2 and 3 to 4. In order to effect reversal of movement of the carriage at 2 and 3 a shaft 26 with projections 36 is provided freely mounted in bearings 27, 28 and positioned by springs 37. When a projection on the carriage 47 strikes a projection 36 on the shaft 26 the shaft is moved so that a part 29 strikes either the reversal switch 32 or 33. After reversal the shaft 26 is repositioned by the springs 37. Adjustable pressure relief valves 126 prevent the switches 32, 33 from closing immediately and this allows the sections 3-4 and 2-1 to be formed at the end of a stitching sequence. The first dart is stitched from 1-4 and the second dart from 4-1 and so on.
