Abstract

1,201,829. Sewing: turning inside out. H. C. ANDERSEN. 1 Oct., 1968 [2 Oct., 1967; 16 Jan., 1968], No. 46542/68. Headings D1G and D1X. Apparatus for closing the toe of a stocking comprises a flat holder 13 for holding the toe of a stocking which can be rotated to a position between a rotatable clamp 17 and a fixed support 18 and then withdrawn to leave the toe of the stocking under the clamp 17 which is then rotated to move the stocking toe past seaming and cutting means. During the operation the leg of the stocking is supported on one of three suction tubes 1, 2, 3 which may be used after seaming to turn the stocking inside out. A tray 6 is provided to support the stockings before seaming. The rotating clamp 17 is supported in a detachable part 24 and driven from the machine. The part 24 may be replaced by others capable of producing differently shaped seams. The machine 30 is tiltable in a vertical plane to separate the clamp 17 and work support 18.
