Abstract

1501869 Seaming; turning inside out DETEXOMAT MACHINERY Ltd 20 May 1975 [3 June 1974] 24574/74 Headings DIG and D1X An article to be seamed (e.g. the toes of stockings or panty-hose) along a seam of a given outline is moved past a seaming machine by the edge of a belt (23) entrained around pulley wheels (e.g. 29, 30, 31) the relative positions of which cause the entrained portion of the belt to adopt a configuration which corresponds to that of the outline. The apparatus shown is intended to sew the two toes 45 of a panty-hose in succession and comprises a carrier 15 provided with a toothed belt 23 passing around a drive pulley 25 and pulleys 26-23 of which pulleys 28 and 30 have their axes transversely adjustable to arrange the belt run therearound to correspond with toe seams 45a, b and c. The lower edge of belt 23 is grooved or feather edged (49, Fig. 3A not shown) to engage the toes presented to the worktable when the carrier is lowered about its pivot 36 by mechanical, pneumatic or electrical means not described. Drive pulley 25 then rotates to move the belt past the form wheels to the presser foot 51, the orientation of the toes held by the belt edge changing so that they are seamed along the desired outline applicator. The apparatus presenting the stockings or panty-hose comprises a three station turret 17 having six leg carriers in the form of tubes 18 each having two axially movable fingers 19. Wind-on wheels 20 and wind on/off wheels 93, 94 are provided at two of the turret stations. At a first station the legs are sucked toe end first into two adjacent tubes and the welts turned back over the tube ends. Wheels 20 then draw the legs back over the outside of the tubes thus everting the legs. The turret indexes to a second station (seaming station) where fingers 19 advance to position the toe ends flat beneath the raised carrier to be clammed beneath the belt 23. Seaming proceeds. The carrier is raised and the turret indexes to the third (unloading) station where first wheels 93 engage the legs to draw the toes back to the tube ends and then the oppositely rotating wheels 94 engage and withdraw the less from the outside of the tubes to be sucked therein to re-evert them. In the case of panty-hose suction is then removed from one tube to discharge the panty-hose through the other tube.
