Abstract

933,885. Sewing; sewing machines. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO. Ltd. June 8, 1962 [March 9, 1961], No. 8633/61. Class 112. In a sewing machine the presser foot is provided on each side of the needle with a rotatable element adapted to engage the work when the presser foot is lowered, the elements being so located that a line joining their centres of rotation intersects the needle axis and lies at right-angles to the line of stitching. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the presser foot 26 carries on each side of the needle 34 a roller 28 mounted on ballbearings. The presser foot and a feed dog 30 co-operate with a template 10 for sewing around the edge of a collar blank. The template comprises upper and lower plates 12 and 14 enclosing the collar blank 16 which abuts locating studs 18. Studs 20 on plate 14 project through holes in plate 12 to align respective slots 24 in the shape of the required line of stitching. The needle plate 32 carries a perforated needle guide stud 36 which projects into the slot 24 in plate 14 to guide the template. The presser foot may also be provided with a needle guide stud projecting into the slot 24 in plate 12. The plates may be made from aluminium or plastic and may be formed with lightening holes 22. The feed dog may be made from or coated with rubber or nylon. In a modification, Fig. 7, the presser foot carries on each side of the needle a spring-biased ball 42.
