Abstract

In the process described in the parent Specification, in which aluminiferous material is treated with a fluorine compound in the presence of sulphuric acid, excess of acid is employed and this excess is neutralized with compounds of magnesium or other alkaline earth metal, or of aluminium. As neutralizing agents, magnesium carbonate, magnesia, dolomite, aluminium hydroxide, aluminates, and the product obtained when lime is added to magnesium sulphate solution, are mentioned. The mixtures obtained can be used for sizing paper or clarifying water.
