Abstract

1500079 Sewing machine STAHL-URBAN CO 27 March 1975 [27 March 1974] 12968/75 Heading D1G A sewing machine, has a work steering device comprising a feed wheel 5 and back up member 7 located upstream of the stitching mechanism, the feed wheel being rotatable about a steering axis 55 disposed upstream of the axis of rotation of the wheel 5. The wheel is mounted in clevis 27 supported on a tubular shaft 37 journalled in a frame 21 to be rotated, to steer the work, by a lever 35 connected to a pneumatically operated piston rod (73 Fig. 3 not shown) controlled by a pneumatic sensor (15, 17, 19 Fig. 1 not shown). The frame 21 is pivoted to frame of a guidance device (3) associated with the sensor. The wheel is driven by a belt 13 passing through shaft 37 and a belt 61 driven from a variable speed device 63 which permits adjustment of the wheel's feeding speed relative to that of the machine's feed. The belt 13 contacts the work and may be of circular or flattened section. Wheel grooves to each side of the belt groove accept rings (56) of similar section to that of the belt.
