Abstract

1499878 Heat exchangers LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 14201/74 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger in which in a casing 10, a heat conducting member 15 separates first and second fluids flowing through the casing which has an inlet and an outlet for each said fluid, the member 15 is double-walled, one wall 19 separating the fluids and the other wall 17 forming part of the second-fluid flow path and perforations having 18 therein which permit the second fluid (e.g. high pressure air) entering at 12 to impinge on the closed end portion of the tube where also the incoming first fluid entering at 11 and comprising, e.g. hot gases or high pressure and temperature impinges. As shown, the double-walled element 15 is a tube closed at one end in which region are the perforations 18. The first fluid flows through an annular space 16 to casing outlet 13. The second fluid after passing through the perforations 18 flows through the space 20 between the walls 17, 19 of the element 15 to a chamber 21. From the chamber 21 the second fluid flows through a single or multistart helical coil in the space 16, to a heated-fluid outlet 14.
