Abstract
1498625 Tunnel linings EDMUND NUTTALL Ltd 22 May 1975 [11 Sept 1974] 39649/74 Heading E1F Segments 11 of e.g. concrete having holes or slots 17, 18 in the intrados face and extending in the intrados face to each edge 13, 12, are held together to form a tunnel lining by holding devices, each being force fitted into two aligned slots or holes 17, 18, preferably so that the devices are flush with the intrados face of the tunnel lining. Each holding device (Fig. 6) may be moulded from nylon or other plastics material. The holes or slots 17, 18 may be of keyhole shape, the holding devices consisting of a central web 20 joining enlarged end sections 21. Each end section 21 comprises a head 22 from which extends a shank 23 carrying four vanes 24 which are tapered inwardly at their ends remote from the head 22. In a tunnel lining, the segments 11 are connected in rings, a keystone segment 15, having offset holes 18a, being situated at the top of a ring. The extrados faces of the segments may be provided with hollows 14.
