Abstract

1,232,299. Tunnels &c. SPUN CONCRETE Ltd. 24 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 45383/68. Heading E1F. In a tunnel lining comprising axially abutting rings of concrete segments 10, 11, 12, 13, (Fig. 1) neighbouring rings are joined by a circumferentially extending groove and tongue 18, 19 (Fig. 2) having locating pins 17 engaging sockets 16. Individual segments of a ring have some freedom of hinging movement about their axially extending joints such as 14, 15. The locating pins, which are provided on the segments 10 only may be of PVC, corrosion resistant metal, polyacetal or hard synthetic rubber. The joints 14, 15 and 18, 19 may be sealed with sponge rubber, PVC, styrene-butadiene rubber or bituminised mastic. Keying grooves may be provided in the grooved edges 18 and/or the tongues 19 to receive the sealant.
