Abstract

1,232,300. Tunnels &c. SPUN CONCRETE Ltd. 24 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 45384/ 68. Heading E1F. A tunnel lining comprising a plurality of precast concrete segments assembled to form a ring in which joints such as 14, 15 allow radial hinging movement, is adapted to be completed by an undersized locking segment 13 which is inserted radially. The lining is erected by screwing to each segment a steel member (not shown), forming part of a former ring and assembling the members connected to the segments 10 to form a partial ring. The segments 11, 12 are then located in position on the outer segments 10, and hinged upwards to allow insertion of the locking segment. The members attached to the segments 11, 12, 13 are joined to complete the former ring. The joints 14, 15 may be sealed with sponge rubber, PVC, or styrene-butadiene rubber which is compressed as the segments are drawn together.
