Abstract

1491195 Tunnel linings S P COLLINS 4 Nov 1974 [5 Nov 1973 21 Dec 1973 7 June 1974] 51275/73 Heading E1F A tunnel-lining ring section is formed from arcuate segments 10 which interlock by means of longitudinally-extending tubes 18. In the embodiment shown the tubes are located in bores in the blocks and engage in apertures 21 provided in ears 17 of adjacent blocks. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown) the blocks do not possess ears, and the tubes engage in apertures 21 provided in plates (23) which span the interfaces of the blocks and are received in recesses 14 in the blocks. In a further alternative embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), the tubes are integral with the plates (23) and engage in respective bores in adjacent blocks. All the blocks may be interlocked to provide a self-supporting ring section, or only some of the blocks may be interlocked the remainder being wedged into position to provide an expansion-type ring-section. The segments may have different lengths and some may be wedge-shaped. Adjacent ring sections are connected by means of rods 22 which are received in the aligned tubes 19.
