Abstract

1408642 Tunnel linings CHARCON TUNNELS Ltd 28 Feb 1973 [2 March 1972] 9743/73 Divided out of 1408641 Heading E1F A spiral tunnel lining comprises arcuate segments 11 each of which has a rebate 19 along one circumferential edge thereof. The rebate 19 along the leading edge of the erected lining is adapted to abut a spiral trailing edge of a tunnelling shield (not shown) to form a seal to prevent tunnel collapse between the lining and shield. The shield per se and method of installation of the arcuate segments 11 form the subject-matter of Specification 1408641. Circumferentially-adjacent segments are interconnected by means of tie-rods 13 extending through circumferential bores in the segments. The segments are axially interconnected by means of tongues and sockets (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the segments are axially interconnected by means of square key plates (26) which extend into triangular slots (20, 21) in the circumferential edges of the segments. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1292638.
