Abstract

1498312 Hot gas engines UNITED STIRLING (SWEDEN) AB & CO KB 27 Jan 1976 02980/76 Heading Fl S A hot gas engine heater head comprises a combustion chamber 11 and a plurality of cylinders 1 and regenerators 6 arranged around a central axis thereof, heat exchanger tubes 13 connected to the cylinders and heat exchanger tubes 14 connected to the regenerators, all of the tubes also being connected to manifolds 12 shaped as annular segments which together form a ring of a diameter substantially smaller than the internal diameter of the combustion chamber. In Fig. 4, combustion air is heated in passing through a heat exchanger 15 to the combustion chamber 11, the combustion gases from which pass between the heat exchanger tubes 13, 14 and through heat exchanger 15. To make the spacings between the tubes 13, 14 substantially constant to ensure uniform gas flow resistance, the radial portions of adjacent tubes 13, 14 are directed alternately to upper and lower portions of the manifolds 12.
