1497555 Burners; liquid fuel lamps SHELTON PROPERTIES Ltd 2 Aug 1976 [31 July 1975] 32144/75 Headings F4T and F4R A liquid - fuel - burning - lamp comprises a burner having a wick 25 in a tube 24 mounted on a fuel tank 10, the wick extending downwardly into the tank, a chamber 35 around the top of the wick and tube, which includes a cap 37 with an aperture 38 above the wick and a bowl 39 around the wick tube and sealed thereto, the upper edge of the bowl being above the level of the top of the tube, said chamber having air inlet an aperture or apertures 36 in its side wall. Tank 10 is of a plastics material and is screwed to the burner support plate 14 at 17, which plate supports bowl 39, with vent holes 23, 40, being provided. A lens 22 is supported on plate 15 and mounts a sheet metal air-inlet cap 51 screwed to a metal tube 52 which carries a glass tube 54. In operation, the lamp is picked up by a handle 66 which lifts tube 52 so that a carrier 53 engages projections 49 and the lens with the tank 11 is lifted. Combustion air enters the lamp below cap 51 and passes over tube 54 so that part of the air passes into chamber 35 through apertures 36, and part passes over the top of the chamber to mix with the vapourized fuel above the wick. The. fuel burns with a steady flame above the aperture 38. Fuel evaporates to form a pool in bowl 39, and from time to time an explosive mixture is formed, with the air passing through aperture 36, causing an intermittent bright .flash at about a frequency of 120 flashes per minute.
