Abstract
1353088 Liquid fuel burners with centrifugal atomization; radiator stoves MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970 29 Oct 1970] 37791/71 Headings F4T and F4W A liquid fuel burner comprises an outer cylinder 1 mounted on a burner case 9, an inner cylinder 2 of metallic net material and containing a circular array of catalytic rods 3, a centrifugal atomizing plate 18 driven with an air fan 13 and the blades 14 of a fuel pump 16 by an electric motor 12, an electric air pre-heating coil 17, and two fuel tanks 20 and 22 the latter of which feeds the plate 18 via a line 25 and the atomized fuel impinges on a current of pre-heated air, is vaporized in a chamber 11 within the case 9 and burns on the holes in the cylinder 2 while unburnt fuel and air pass through to the rods 3 which enhance combustion. The fuel supply system includes a strainer 28, overflow pipe 23, drain pipe 27, valve 26 and a further electromagnetically operated valve 41 comprising a mercury switch to cut off the fuel supply on vibration of the burner. The cylinder 2 which must be heat resistant may be made from punched metal or ceramic material instead of metal net and radiates infra-red rays in use. The outer cylinder 1 is preferably of heat-transmitting heat-resistant glass but may also be an iron plate or casting. The rods 3 are preferably of heat-resistant porous catalytic material, e.g. alumina or ceramic but may alternatively be metal or glass rods. An alternative form of preheating apparatus is shown in detail in Fig. 4. A pot-type burner element is mounted beneath the radiant cylinder 2 and has a central opening 38 surmounted by a cap 40 in which the centrifugal atomizing plate is disposed. Air is preheated electrically and enters the pot 35 via lateral apertures 36 to mix with fuel which is sprayed on to the peripheral wall 43 of the cap 40 and passes through fuel apertures 39.
