Abstract

1,160,775. Air heaters. J. C. JAMES. 18 March, 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 11652/67. Headings F4S and F4W. An air heater for use as a poultry heater comprises a base plate 10, a gas, oil or electric heating element 12 centrally supported on the plate, a cowl 20 carried on the plate and enclosing the element, which cowl has an imperforate dome 22 carried on an apertured peripheral wall 21 and which is located in a ring 25 carried on the base plate, an apertured light shield 29 surrounding and spaced from the wall and a guard 31 having a mesh wall 34 and an upper central aperture 35 to allow warm air to pass therethrough, which guard is designed to fit over the plate and enclose but not touch the cowl and light shield. The base plate and cowl are of incombustible refractory material e.g. asbestos. As shown, the heating element comprises a gas burner, the supply of gas thereto being controlled by a thermostatic temperature valve 16 mounted on an arm 17 extending obliquely upwards and outwards from the edge of the base plate. A curved baffle plate 24 is suspended above the heating element.
