Abstract

1497128 Connector BUNKER RAMO CORP 17 Nov 1975 [15 Nov 1974] 47303/75 Heading H2E A connector has an insulating body with contact receiving chambers extending through the body and a contact, housed in each chamber, characterized by a locking tab, engaging a shoulder in the chamber, and being releasable by the insertion of a tool from either end of the chamber, through passageways provided in the chamber. In an embodiment (Fig. 2) the insulating body 1 has three rows of chambers 2, and a mounting flange 6. The contact member 7 (Figs. 4, 5) has two resilient contact arms 8 joined by a bridge 9 and a termination section 10 for receiving conductor 11. Contact portion 23 and locking tab 13 are separated by slot 12, and tab 13 has a releasing shoulder 14 which has a ramp 15. The contact 7 fits. into chamber 2, which has a substantially rectangular cross section and an edge 16 which limits the upward movement of contact. 7. Wall 3 has a locking shoulder 17 which occupies about a third of the width of chamber 2. A passageway (18, Fig. 1, not shown) defined by wall 41 and shoulder 17 receives the releasing shoulder 14 of locking tab 13. Wall 3 has a slot raised portion (19) extending from shoulder 17 to the upper edge 16 and a stop 20; the portion (19) holds contact arm 8 away from wall 3 to define passageway 25 for insertion of contact removing tool 22 and stop 20 engages by faces 8a to limit upward movement. To release contact member 7 from the upper side (Figs. 2) tool 22 is inserted through passageway 25, tab 13 is lifted from shoulder 17 and contact 7 removed by withdrawing conductor 11; to release contact 7 from the other side tool 22 is inserted through passageway (18) and pushed under the shoulder 14 to release tabs 13 and the contact 7 is removed as before. In a modification (not shown) the chamber has another locking shoulder on wall 3<SP>1</SP> and the contact 7 has two locking tabs 13 and contact 7 can then be inserted in chamber 2 in two positions, angularly displaced by 180 degrees about the longitudinal axis of contact 7; the removing tool in this case (not shown) is fork-shaped to release both tabs 13 simultaneously.
