Abstract

1495899 Ferrosilicon nitride treatment DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 11 May 1976 [15 May 1975] 19297/76 Heading C1A Ferrosilicon nitride, intended for use in making troughs for molten iron in a blast furnace system, is blended with an aqueous acidic solution, especially a dilute solution of an acid and the blend subjected to air oxidation, at 50‹ to 200‹ C., suitably using wet air. Either inorganic or organic acids may be used, and those specified include hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric, dichromic and chromic acids, as well as formic, acetic, oxalic, tartaric and citric acid. Inorganic salts forming acid aqueous solutions may also be used, e.g. aluminium phosphate, ferric chloride, ferric sulphate and aluminium sulphate. Treatment converts metallic iron present in the ferrosilicon nitride into an iron salt which is then oxidized to ferric oxide, and generally reduces the exothermic temperature of the material.
